| Purpose | To encourage councils to be political advocates for education funding and legislation. |

Description of Award Plaque presented at the annual Montana Association of Elementary and Middle School Principal's Conference. Purpose To acknowledge the efforts of an administrator in promoting the improvement of reading instruction. Qualifications Administrator must be presently assigned to an administrative position in the state of Montana and not be a previous winner of the award.

Description of Award $10,000 to be used by a local council to develop a community literacy project in their council area. Purpose To design a literacy project that promotes reading in the community. Qualifications Must be a recognized local council affiliated with the Montana State Reading Council and the International Reading Association.
A project will not be funded for more than 2 consecutive years.
Classroom Teacher Project Grant

Description of Award Up to $1,000 for classroom research project Qualifications Applicant must be a current member of MSRC.
Information Required Description of what this individual does to promote and encourage literacy among students; Description of what he/she does to inspire other teachers to strive for excellence in the teaching of literacy. Notification to Recipients Applicants will be notified on or before May 1. Requirments Grant recipient will present at the MSRC conference following the conclusion of the project and/or submit an article for the Montana State Reading Journal describing the research project and outcomes. Recipient will a final financial report by June 15, 2010.
MSRC Scholarship

Description of Award $1000 Scholarship to a Montana college or university. Purpose To assist an literacy educator in pursuit of a graduate study in reading. Qualifications An applicant must meet the following criteria:
1. Be a current member of the Montana State Reading Council and must have three consecutive
years as a MSRC member.
2. Be a member of a local reading council. In the event the applicant is located in a
geographical area that does not allow access to a local reading council, evidence of
demonstrated excellence in the area of reading instruction, special reading programming
and/or informal reading research may be substituted.
3. Have three years successful classroom teaching experience.
An applicant should be planning or involved in a program of study for a Master's degree or a
Doctoral degree from an accredited institution.

Amount $100 (donated by Great Northern Books) and an engraved plaque Qualifications Current member of MSRC; Currently employed as a teacher/librarian in the state of Montana; Not a previous winner of the award.

Notification to Recipients Award is presented at the Awards Ceremony at the MSRC Reading Conference. Only the committee chair and the individual who submitted the nomination know the identity of the winner in advance.

If you are an MSRC member, but did not attend the conference or did not keep your conference program, you may obtain application forms from the committee chairperson or from local council presidents or state executive committee members.
