Legislative Advocacy Award

Description of Award	$100 to one council with the most Congressional/Legislative visits.
Purpose	To encourage councils to be political advocates for education funding and legislation.
Qualifications	Must be a local reading council affiliated with the Montana State Reading Council and the International Reading Council

Administrator in Reading Award

Description of Award	Plaque presented at the annual Montana Association of Elementary and Middle School Principal's Conference.
Purpose	To acknowledge the efforts of an administrator in promoting the improvement of reading instruction.
Qualifications	Administrator must be presently assigned to an administrative position in the state of Montana and not be a previous winner of the award.

Creative Assistance Grant

Description of Award	$200 to be used by a local council to develop a community literacy project in their council area.
Purpose	To design a literacy project that promotes reading in the community.
Qualifications	Must be a recognized local council affiliated with the Montana State Reading Council and the International Reading Association. A project will not be funded for more than 2 consecutive years.

Classroom Teacher Project Grant

Deadline: March 31, 2006

Amount	Up to $1000 for classroom research project
Qualifications	Applicant must be a current member of MSRC.
Information Required	Description of what this individual does to promote and encourage literacy among students; Description of what he/she does to inspire other teachers to strive for excellence in the teaching of literacy.
Notification to Recipients	Applicants will be notified on or before May 1, 2006.
Winner Requirement	Grant recipient will present at the MSRC conference following the conclusion of the project and/or submit an article for the Montana State Reading Journal describing the research project and outcomes. Recipient will a final financial report by June 15, 2007.

MSRC Scholarship

Description of Award	$500 Scholarship to a Montana college or university.
Purpose	To assist an literacy educator in pursuit of a graduate study in reading.
Qualifications	Applicant should be pursuing a plan of study for a Master's Degree, a Sixth year of graduate study or a Doctoral degree from an accredited Montana institution and must be the member of a local Montana reading council and a member of MSRC.

Pam Atchison Memorial Reading Award

Deadline: August 15, 2006

Amount	$100 (donated by Great Northern Books) and an engraved plaque
Qualifications	Current member of MSRC; Currently employed as a teacher/librarian in the state of Montana; Not a previous winner of the award.
Information Required	Description of what this individual does to promote and encourage literacy among students; Description of what he/she does to inspire other teachers to strive for excellence in the teaching of literacy.
Notification to Recipients	Award is presented at the Awards Ceremony at the MSRC Reading Conference. Only the committee chair and the individual who submitted the nomination know the identity of the winner in advance.

MSRC Literacy Award

Deadline: August 15, 2006
Submit completed application form to: Karen Hickey, RR1 Box 58, Moore, MT 59464

Description of Award	Recipient will receive a plaque and framed certificate presented at the MSRC Fall Reading Conference.
Purpose	To honor a community member who has made significant contributions to literacy.
Qualifications	Individual, agency, or institution who have supported literacy at the state or local level.

Applications: Application forms are included in the back of the MSRC Conference Program from the October MSRC Reading Conference. If you are an MSRC member, but did not attend the conference or did not keep your conference program, you may obtain application forms from the committee chairperson or from local council presidents or state executive committee members.
